This 2-day course is designed to provide the critical-care healthcare provider with a review of AACN’s core curriculum, as of March 25, 2020. Provided in a lecture format, the instructor will review anatomy and physiology, physical assessment (including hemodynamics and utilization of invasive assessment tools) and pathophysiology in a systems approach. Topics that are discussed include: cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, renal, endocrine, hematological, gastrointestinal, psychological and legal aspects of care. This review is not an introduction to the environment of the critical-care area, but a comprehensive update for the professional already in practice at the critical-care bedside and preparing for the CCRN Certification Examination.

Dr. Klacman currently resides in Dallas-Ft. Worth. She is an assistant tenure-track professor at Texas Woman’s University-Dallas in the Houston J. and Florence A. Doswell College of Nursing, where she teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. She is the former system education specialist of critical care for Texas Health Resources, a large healthcare system across DFW. She is an experienced critical care nurse and practiced at the bedside for eight years prior to moving into education. She was the first person globally to implement the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI)™ Program at an organization during her time as the American Heart Coordinator/Life Support educator. Her interests include best practices in resuscitation education, care of critically ill cardiac patients and basic/advanced ECG interpretation.
Dr. Klacman has been with MED-ED since 2016 and teaches a variety of cardiac and critical care courses. She has been a presenter at multiple local, state, national and international conferences. She has been a reviewer for AACN’s Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO) modules related to pulmonary and cardiac disorders. Alex obtained her research doctorate in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), where she studied outcomes from the RQI Program. Her research interest focuses on CPR quality in morbidly obese patients. She currently works PRN in the CVICU at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-Dallas and is an acute care nurse practitioner student at UTA. She has been honored as a Great 100 Nurse of DFW and as a winner of the D Magazine Excellence in Nursing Award.

Sign-in begins at 7:30 am. The day includes a one-hour lunch (on your own), as well as a morning and afternoon break of 15 minutes each. The order of lectures presented and break times may vary according to speaker preference.

Walk-In Fee
As long as space is available, you can register the day of the seminar with an additional walk-in fee of $15. Please note that only cash, money orders, credit cards and hospital checks are accepted at the door. Personal checks are not accepted.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations received in writing or by phone up to 14 days prior to the seminar will receive a Full Refund. A 10% processing fee will be charged for refunds requested less than 14 days prior to the seminar. Cancellation fee will be waived for tuition transferred to another seminar or if applied to Self-Study products. In the rare event that MED-ED must cancel, MED-ED’s liability is limited to tuition.
