Course Description

This Nursing Grand Rounds webinar will provide participants with an overview of managing patients experiencing depression in the inpatient-psychiatric-care setting. The varied symptom presentation and diagnostic classifications of depressive disorder will be described. Key strategies for applying the nursing process in caring for a patient experiencing depression will be discussed. The importance of safe and effective management of depression for the psychiatric patient and healthcare team will be emphasized. The critical role nurses play within the mental health multidisciplinary team in managing depressive disorder in the inpatient psychiatric care setting will be highlighted.

This program prepares the learner to:

• Self-report at an 80% rate an increase in knowledge and/or skills and confidence necessary to effectively and safely manage patients diagnosed and experiencing depressive disorder in the inpatient psychiatric setting.
