Course Description

This two-day class is a comprehensive review of medical-surgical nursing and will explore principles necessary for practice, comprehensive assessment techniques and cutting-edge therapeutics. Use it as preparation for the certification exam, or as a review of general medical-surgical practice. Content is taught at an advanced level and is designed for the experienced med-surg nurse, however, nurses new to med-surg will find the teaching methods easy to understand. Strategies for successful completion of the exam will be explored, as well as a review of the major topics and content covered in the exam.

This seminar teaches to both the ANCC and MSNCB Medical-Surgical Nursing Exams.

Program Learning Outcomes

This program prepares the learner to:

  • Describe the Medical-Surgical Nursing Exam, test plan and the practice requirements to sit for the exam.
  • Construct a study plan for the exam based on understanding the blueprint and domains of practice covered.
  • Identify common mistakes and pitfalls that are made during studying and testing for the exam.
  • Recall the core components covered in the exam through didactic supplementation and test questions.

Pam has more than 35 years of varied nursing experience. She has worked as a staff/charge nurse for medical-surgical and pediatric units. Her experience also includes nurse management, nursing administration, nursing education and consulting. While Pam currently works as an independent consultant, she maintains her skills by working as a clinical educator for medical-surgical and specialty surgery at an acute care facility in Charlotte, NC. Pam is dually certified in medical-surgical nursing from the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses and the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Additionally, she has partnered with various nursing schools to assist nursing students in their preparation for the NCLEX Exam.

Pam speaks nationally on clinical and legal topics for the healthcare professional. Her passion is evidenced by her energy, presentation style and ability to engage the audience. She was awarded the 2013 South Carolina Educator of the Year Award by the South Carolina AHEC Consortium and considers it a privilege to share her expertise.

Sign-in begins at 7:30 am. The day includes a one-hour lunch (on your own), as well as a morning and afternoon break of 15 minutes each. The order of lectures presented and break times may vary according to speaker preference.

Cancellations received in writing or by phone up to 14 days prior to the seminar will receive a Full Refund. A 10% processing fee will be charged for refunds requested less than 14 days prior to the seminar. Cancellation fee will be waived for tuition transferred to another seminar or if applied to Self-Study products. In the rare event that MED-ED must cancel, MED-ED’s liability is limited to tuition.
