Course Description

This course is designed to prepare the nurse specializing in caring for stroke patients to pass the Stroke Certified Registered Nurse Examination. The course reviews all major topics of the examination and provides information regarding the latest guidelines and protocols for managing stroke patients. It reviews different stroke types, assessment, acute management and rehabilitation of strokes.

This program prepares the learner to:

  • Identify the different types of strokes and follow the current stroke guidelines for managing strokes.
  • Perform advanced neurological assessments for stroke patients.
  • Teach patients and family about prevention and recognition of strokes.

Arlene is a neuroscience/critical care nurse educator with more than 20 years of bedside experience, along with over 6 years in neuroscience education. She has taught review courses for CCRN, SCRN and CNRN certifications as well as the fundamentals of neuro nursing in in-service and public formats. She has presented nationally at the American Association of Critical- Care Nurses’ National Teaching Institute and locally in her prior home of Tennessee on infection prevention processes. She has been a member of AACN for over 20 years and is also a member of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses and the Neurocritical Care Society. She has been published in Nursing Critical Care and Nursing 2016.

The Day Of

Sign-in begins at 7:30 am. The day includes a one-hour lunch (on your own), as well as a morning and afternoon break of 15 minutes each. The order of lectures presented and break times may vary according to speaker preference.

Parking

Visitors can park in any visitor parking. Options include (1) Student Center Parking #3 (first hour free then $1 per 30 minutes) on Laney Walker Blvd OR (2) 15th Street Parking Deck (no charge).

Walk-In Fee

As long as space is available, you can register the day of the seminar with an additional walk-in fee of $15. Please note that only cash, money orders, credit cards and hospital checks are accepted at the door. Personal checks are not accepted.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations received in writing or by phone up to 14 days prior to the seminar will receive a Full Refund. A 10% processing fee will be charged for refunds requested less than 14 days prior to the seminar. Cancellation fee will be waived for tuition transferred to another seminar or if applied to Self-Study products. In the rare event that MED-ED must cancel, MED-ED’s liability is limited to tuition.
