Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide all nurses caring for acute stroke patients with the knowledge of the different types of stroke and the newer recommendations used in the management of stroke based on the newer AHA Guidelines for the Management of Patients with Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke. This course will provide a complete review of material covered on the SCRN Exam.

Key Learning Outcome

  • After completing the program, 80% of participants will report an increase in knowledge and confidence necessary to pass the certification exam.

Program Objective

This program prepares the learner to:

  • Relate the new care pathways for the ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients and how they affect the outcomes of this patient population.

Agenda

Sign-in begins at 7:30 am. Each day includes a one-hour lunch (on your own), as well as a morning and afternoon break of 15 minutes each. The order of lectures presented and break times may vary according to speaker preference.

Micheal Moore earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2013 and his bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2015. With over a decade of nursing experience, he has worked across acute care, ICU-level care, nurse management and system-of-care coordination. In 2023, he achieved certification as a Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN®).

He has trained a wide range of healthcare professionals, including EMS personnel, nurses, advanced practice practitioners and providers. He co-founded the Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and serves as a certified ASLS provider and instructor, delivering both prehospital and hospital-level provider certification.

Michael is an active member of the Tennessee Nurse Stroke Alliance and the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the American Association for Men in Nursing, continuing to advance stroke care education and interdisciplinary collaboration throughout the region.
