This two-day course provides the critical care nurse with a review of AACN’s 2020 core curriculum. The agenda combines central knowledge-based lectures for nurses working in the ICU with an essential review of nursing care and interventions according to the AACN exam blueprint for the critical care provider. This review is not an introduction to the environment of the ICU, but a comprehensive update for the professional already in practice at the bedside and preparing for the certification examination.

This review course content follows AACN’s updated 2020 CCRN Exam blueprint. Professional Caring and Ethical Practice (20% of exam) issues are addressed when appropriate.

Michael began his practice in North Carolina as a registered respiratory therapist caring for patients in various intensive-care units as well as assisting patients with hemodynamic monitoring. After receiving a degree in nursing, he was able to assist in a dual role in various departments as nurse and respiratory therapist. Michael was then able to assist in the cardiac cath, interventional and electrophysiology labs as well as the ground transport team. He eventually became the team leader for the hospital-based rapid response team. Michael currently practices in a free-standing emergency department.
Along with bed-side nursing, Michael is often involved in education for numerous practices areas, he also precepts new and senior nurses and assists the staff education department in providing ACLS and PALS.
In addition to providing continuing education for the critical-care nursing staff, Michael has presented numerous podium presentations and lectures on a national-level for major nursing conferences that have included the International ANCC Magnet Conference. Michael has been the recipient of the North Carolina Great 100 Nurses Award for Outstanding Practice and a two-time recipient in nurse excellence from his healthcare system.
